7/24/2010 - Take Five

The AMH Band was a quintet this Saturday - John and Hope were away attending John's 40th High School Reunion at Lapel, IN (who were all those old people at the reunion?).  Anyway, they were missed like a toothache, but the band played on and delivered a fine show to the delight of a full house.  A strong point of this band is its ability to always perform well, even when one or more of the regular members are away.  The band is also fortunate to have talented backups, such as John (Slick) Schilk who is becoming one of the go-to guys for filling in on the drums and who performed with the band on this weekend.

As usual there were brand-new visitors, including a couple of hooligans from Sharpsville, as Greg described the ladies.  Something keeps bringing people back, maybe part of it is the delicious cookies that Linda provided as a treat for all.  Despite the heat and a big dance going on in Noblesville, the Music Hall was full and rockin' and the air conditioner was keeping the place as cool as the tunes being played.

A bountiful harvest from some of the regular attendees resulted in a basket of zucchini, squash, and cucumbers available to all at the same cost as an admission ticket.  One suspects that as the summer wears on this practice will continue and be amended to add tomatoes, corn and who knows what.  Maybe even some fresh weasel meat.

Jim was also away attending to some personal family issues so that meant it was mainly an instrumental night.  Roberta gave her usual offer to sing, but for some reason it was declined once again, despite her illustrious career in the Aracadia Children's Choir as a child.  In the absence of Jim and Hope's vocals, the audience participated in some sing-a-longs.  Greg also graced the audience with his stirring vocal rendition of Cabaret, the poignant and haunting story of Elsie from Chelsea.  A broad variety of numbers from Beer Barrell Polka to Stardust kept the audience energized and looking forward to next week's performance.
